Robert E. Lee's trusted adviser and friend
Lee referred to him as "Old Pete" and "My Old War Horse"
Graduated West Point in 1842
Distinguished himself during the Mexican-American War
Resigned his commission at the out break of the Civil War
and joined the Confederate States Army.
